University of Groningen
For years there have been numerous and regular research contacts between Universität Hamburg and University of Groningen, in November 2019 both universities signed a central contract for cooperation. What's more, University of Groningen is member of the Consortium of Universities in Northern Germany, which Universität Hamburg is also a member of.
The city of Hamburg and the city of Groningen are equally closely related. The cooperation agreement between the two cities was extended in April 2019 and focuses on renewable energies, science and research, urban development, mobility and health.
The University of Groningen was founded in 1614. It is one of the oldest and with more than 30 000 students also one of the biggest universities in the Netherlands. The university comprises 11 faculties where people with more than 120 different nationalities study, teach and work. Furthermore, University of Groningen offers around 90 English-speaking Master programmes and 36 English-speaking Bachelor programmes, attracting students from all around the world. This reflects in the university's high grade of internationalization.
University of Groningen's research focuses on psychology, medicine, business administration, ecology and sociology. The 2019 Shanghai-Ranking rated the university among the 100 best universities worldwide. Additionally, University of Groningen is part of the Excellence Group of the 56 best universities in Europe
