The collaboration project “Prediction of atrial fibrillation progression and stroke by novel clinical parameters” (PROGRESS-AF) aims to find predictors of progression of the common arrhythmia atrial fibrillation. The identification of possible targets could prevent or slow progression which is crucial to lower the risks of stroke, heart failure, dementia and mortality and improve quality of life in atrial fibrillation. Both research groups will jointly study the hypothesis that subtle changes of atrial dysfunction and disease progression can be measured by novel echocardiographic methods before they become detectable by conventional cardiac imaging.
