**Science and Beλond—LGBTIQA*!**

Are you part of the community and looking for networking opportunities with other LGBTIQA* people? Are you not one of those letters but an ally? Do you simply want to learn more about the topic and increase your awareness?

Come on, join the University network Science and Beλond! Network members can expect regular networking events and inspiring information activities, such as lectures and empowerment and awareness workshops, among other things. We cannot wait to meet you and look forward to hearing your ideas and insights, which will provide us with new impetus.

Who is the network for?

All administrative and academic staff of Universität Hamburg—LGBTIQA* or allies—and interested persons employed by other universities or research institutions in Hamburg. English is our main language, but fluency in English is not required. We hope to also attract speakers of all other languages.

The network:

offers a great platform to get to know new people and helps newcomers settle in smoothly at Universität Hamburg
increases employee awareness about LGBTIQA* in higher education
raises public awareness about the relevance and urgency of this topic.

Current events

Online kickoff event of Science and Beλond—The LGBTQI* Network on 18 November 2021 at 6:30 pm on Zoom.

The LGBTQI* network Science and Beλond aims to connect LGBTQI* people and allies in the scientific hub of Hamburg. We welcome all staff of universities and research institutions in Hamburg to our kickoff event!

Our kickoff is divided into 2 parts:

First, former CERN employee and journalist Pauline Gagnon will give the English-language lecture “What’s wrong with me?” Her talk examines why sexism, homophobia, and racism still prevail in physics. It also focuses on measures that help improve the situation and benefit all persons in academia. Diversity increases creativity, which is key to all research.

Second, we are hosting the Science and Beλond—LGBTQI* Pub Quiz at 7:30 pm. We will divide participants into teams and send them on a LGBTQI* journey: questions range from demanding to amusing, from basic to tricky, from history to sports, from arts to science. Our main goal is that you have fun while expanding your network.

Pauline Gagnon’s lecture is in English; our pub quiz is bilingual (German and English).

Brief workshops “Science and Beλond—What Does LGBTQI* Mean?”

This short workshop aims to approach the topic from different perspectives: Is this a private matter only? How does the University as an employer benefit from supporting LGBTQI*? We will discuss, among other things, employer branding, good collaboration, and versatile thinking as key indicators of excellence. Let us jointly investigate how equal opportunity in the workplace pays off both financially and culturally and how we can make equal opportunity an integral part of the University.
