Coronavirus Assistance Fund for Teaching and Research Staff with Family Obligations
+++ No more applications can be accepted at the moment +++
The coronavirus pandemic had created a challenging situation for academics with family obligations who have an obligatory teaching load. Due to limited care options, teaching and research staff with family obligations were having to look after their children, carry out homeschooling, and/or care for dependent relatives all while working and teaching from home. Parents of toddlers, in particular, found themselves in a stressful situation, and early-career researchers were disproportionately affected by this problem.
University of Hamburg had announced a new Coronavirus Assistance Fund for teaching and research staff to cover the wages of student assistants to help with digital teaching duties.
Applications were open to academics employed at the University of Hamburg with an obligatory teaching load in Summer Semester 2021, who have to look after children under the age of 12, children with disabilities, or dependent relatives at home. Members of the medical faculty/UKE were excluded from the application process. Assistance was provided in the form of increased hours for student assistants or financial support for hiring student assistants to help with teaching duties.
