Under the heading “Considering aspects of diversity in research,” the German Research Foundation (DFG) Senate has established new priorities for research project applications. The application instructions will be supplemented with the passage on the relevance of gender and diversity. A checklist provides pointers on the extent to which aspects of diversity might be relevant in one’s own research and should therefore be considered in the planning and implementation of a research project. In addition, the DFG has also compiled subject-specific information.
With the adoption of the Research-Oriented Standards on Gender Equality in 2002, the DFG has actively promoted equal opportunity and the equality of women and men in the German research system as well as the reconciliation of work and family life. This was expanded in 2017 with the Diversity in the Research System action area, which addresses further diversity categories and established the possibility to compensate for any disadvantages.
