The Collaborative Research Centre TRR181 "Energy transfers in Atmosphere and Ocean" and the Cluster of Excellene CLICCS is honored to welcome scientist Londa Schiebinger to Hamburg, where she will give insights to her research projects. Londa Schiebinger is a leading international authority on gender and science. She holds the John L. Hinds Chair of History of Science from Stanford University and is the director of the US/EU project "Gendered Innovations in Science, Health and Medicine, Engineering and Environment".
On Thursday, the 21st of November Londa Schiebinger will hold a Open Evening Lecture about "Gendered Innovations in Biomedicine, Marine Science, Machine Learning, and Robotics". There she will talk about the creative power of gender analysis for discovery and innovation, discuss case studies, including gender, ethnicity, and fairness in machine learning, and gendering social robots. The research project "Gendered Innovations" was developed through a collaboration of over a hundred experts from across the world, e.g. US, Europe and Asia. Major funders include the European Commission, the U.S. National Science Foundation, and the Standford University.

Londa Schiebinger will also be part of two workshops for PhDs and PostDocs on Friday, the 22th of November at Mittelweg 177, N0006/0008:
9:30-12:00 "Funding Opportunities: How to Ace the Sex and Gender Analysis Questions for the EU and DFG"
The DFG will be requiring sex and gender analysis in research proposals beginning in 2020 and this workshop can help prepare you secure funding. All junior researchers at Universität Hamburg and University of Bremen can apply for the workshop. TRR 181 and CLICCS members who register until October 15 will be given priority. After this date, remaining places will be allocated in the order of registration. General registration is open until November 18. You can register online.
13:00-15:00 "Gender Issues in Career Development"
This workshop is a casual Q&A with Prof. Schiebinger. She will talk about her personal career and some experience on the science done in this area. All junior researchers at Universität Hamburg and University of Bremen can apply for the workshop. TRR 181 and CLICCS members as well as Coachees of the Agatha Lasch Coaching Program + Diversity 2019 who register until October 15 will be given priority. After this date, remaining places will be allocated in the order of registration. General registration is open until November 18.
