Excellent research infrastructure
As a University of Excellence, Universität Hamburg is improving its research infrastructure to facilitate top-level, cutting-edge research. By setting up technology platforms, the University is systematizing the procurement, use, and maintenance of core facilities. The new Digital Office headed by the chief digital officer plays a decisive role in coordinating strategic development in the area of IT and digitalization.
Technology platforms
Universität Hamburg—University of Excellence is establishing technology platforms in a range of areas. These partly centralized, partly decentralized platforms support the interdisciplinary and synergistic use of equipment.
So far, 4 technology platforms are already professionally operating state-of-the-art equipment, training researchers, and helping them in planning their experiments:
A centralized coordination office organizes the procurement and maintenance of large equipment, thereby facilitating a strategic and future-oriented development of research infrastructure at Universität Hamburg—University of Excellence.
IT and digitalization platform
Since the beginning of 2021, Universität Hamburg—University of Excellence has had a chief digital officer.
Coordinated by the Digital Office, a holistic digital vision and a corresponding digital strategy were developed, setting the ways in which the University will pursue a successful digital transfomation in research, teaching, and administration.
The Hub of Computing and Data Science (HCDS) is vital to digital transformation of research. Cross-disciplinary labs (CDLs) foster interdisciplinary research projects which use artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science methods. Expanding collaborations at the interface of specialist subjects and digital methodological sciences will enable us to submit applications for new collaborative grants—partly financed through Excellence Strategy funds.
