University of Excellence external expert panel

Universität Hamburg—University of Excellence addresses strategic projects and structures that effectively support long-term institutional development and promote top-level research. To allow for optimal research, the University of Hamburg regularly seeks advice from experts on scientific, economic, cultural, and social issues. These advisory panels deal with the central dimensions of research and research infrastructure, teaching, knowledge exchange, and internationalization. The Excellence Advisory Board is responsible for overarching topics.

The panels are established according to a “people follow roles that follow strategies that follow vision” approach to create a safe space for experimentation, which allows for innovative ideas to be developed and an overall strategic contribution to the University of Hamburg. Sustainability and digitalization are central in this context. All 5 panels generally meet twice a year.

The advisory boards are deliberately made up of a range of people with a range of professional experience and expertise. Panel members all have outstanding specialist knowledge and bring in diverse perspectives. As Critical Friends, these people provide the Executive University Board with important ideas and recommendations for further developing the Excellence Strategy.
