Studying as a parent
Universität Hamburg provides support for students with children. If you meet the requirements, you may include a part-time study application or a hardship application together with your application to study at the University. Furthermore, Universität Hamburg offers a broad spectrum of advising covering all aspects of studying and life with children at the University.
Recommendations by the Executive University Board
On 18 April 2011 the Executive University Board of Universität Hamburg passed a resolution on recommendations on how to reconcile studies with raising children . These recommendations (PDF, in German only) provide an overview of opportunities and types of support Universität Hamburg has implemented for students with children.
Family Office
The Family Office provides contacts and advising for students and academic and administrative staff of Universität Hamburg. The Family Office team will help you select the best support options for combining studies and family life. The Family Office website provides further information and links to numerous institutions.
Childcare
Studierendenwerk Hamburg (student services) runs different childcare centers. Altogether, these facilities provide places for about 370 children. For further information, please see the Studierendenwerk webpages.
AStA Referat für Kultur und soziale Bewegung (AStA section for cultural affairs and social change)
This section of the AStA (student council) deals with students' university-related economic and social problems. Aimed at improving study conditions in general, it focuses in particular on the semester public transport ticket hardship fund, studying with children, etc. Please find more information on the AStA website.
