If you received no offers of admission for any of your applications during the coordination phase, hochschulstart.de will send you an email with a link on 24 February. You can use this link to declare your participation in the succession procedure. You need to declare participation for each degree program separately. Admission offers in the coordinated succession procedure are made on the basis of the ranking lists already created in the first coordination phase.

The link to declare participation is valid from 12 midnight on 24 February to 12 midnight on 27 February (72 hours). The declaration can be made within the period mentioned above directly via the foundation’s portal. Important: You may not make your declaration of participation in the succession procedure at a later date. 

You can also, or as an alternative, submit a new application.

New applications can only be submitted by prospective students who were not admitted during the coordination phase and who have not yet submitted an application for the degree program in question. New applications can be submitted throughout the entire coordinated succession procedure. You cannot exceed the maximum number of 12 applications in the DoSV portal. Prospective students who have not yet submitted any application can also take part in the coordinated succession procedure with a new application.

New applications are entered in the respective ranking list and marked explicitly as succession procedure submissions; they are taken into consideration as soon as there are no more applications to consider in the regular ranking lists (see above). Admission offers are made as soon as applications are submitted (“rolling admission”). If applications are submitted at the same time, a lottery procedure determines the order in the ranking list.

If you wish to apply for a participating program in the lottery procedure, you need to do so directly via hochschulstart.de, not via the University of Hamburg. To do so, you must register at hochschulstart.de (in case you have not already registered).

Note: Rejection letters are not sent in the coordinated succession procedure.

Coordination Regulation 4 applies throughout the coordinated succession procedure:

If an application is successful—that is, if you are offered a place in a particular program—this application will automatically be granted admission status and all other applications will be eliminated regardless of priority.

If, for example, you receive an offer of admission for an application to a law program that you marked as your second priority (“2”), you will be automatically granted admission and all other applications are then excluded from consideration, including those to which you gave top priority (“1”).

Selection

The ranking and your place in the ranking from the coordination phase remain unchanged. For example, if the University of Hamburg has 4 places remaining to be filled after the initial coordination, the next 4 applicants in the ranking list who were not previously admissible, and have declared their participation in the succession procedure, will be offered places. This selection will continue until the places are filled or there are no more applicants in the ranking. If there are no more applications in the ranking list, the remaining places are allocated in the succession procedure.

 The information about admission and enrollment from the coordination phase applies accordingly. Please also note that the 7-day enrollment period begins from the point at which your acceptance letter is made available electronically in your STiNE account.
