Step 1: Registering on hochschulstart.de

The first step towards university study is registering on hochschulstart.de. Begin by entering your contact details. You will then be sent an applicant ID (BID) and applicant authentication number (BAN) that you will need in order to complete the application process.

Note: You can register on hochschulstart.de at any time, not only during the application period. However, you can only apply via Universität Hamburg’s application portal starting on the first day of the application period—see Step 2 for details.

Note: If you already have an account on hochschulstart.de, then use this. Do not create a new account—see below for an important note on multiple registrations.

Once you have successfully registered on hochschulstart.de, proceed to Step 2: Application.

Important note on multiple registrations:

Multiple registrations are not permitted on hochschulstart.de. If you register more than once, only the applications you submit via the most recent account will be considered in the application procedure.

Your older account will be deleted—you will be informed of this via email. Deleted accounts cannot be reactivated. All applications already submitted via this account will be lost. Applications submitted via a hochschulstart.de account that has been deleted therefore cannot be considered during the awarding of university places.

If you forget your username or password, do not create a new account! Instead, request your username / reset your password or contact hochschulstart.de.
