University of Excellence

Strengthening regional research cooperation

The University of Hamburg—University of Excellence is expanding its manifold research cooperation in Hamburg. Its main organ for doing so is the Partnership for Innovation, Education and Research (PIER PLUS). Initially conceived as a cooperation between the University of Hamburg and DESY, PIER PLUS now involves 22 partner institutions. In the context of PIER PLUS, partner institutions associate and facilitate cooperation for their researchers based on their research profiles.

Interdisciplinary Research Networking in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region

On 22 April, the University of Hamburg invited around 100 members of the institutions in the PIER PLUS research alliance to Science City Hamburg-Bahrenfeld. A matchmaking event allowed them to network throughout the newly expanded alliance, and forge new networks across the whole of their PIER PLUS profile.

Six New Universities in PIER PLUS Research Alliance

Starting immediately, the Hamburg research alliance PIER PLUS includes 6 further universities: the Bucerius Law School, the HafenCity University, the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg), the Helmut Schmidt University, and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater.
