The Partnership for Innovation, Education and Research PLUS, or PIER PLUS for short, coordinated by Universität Hamburg, was founded in 2019. Its purpose is to systematically strengthen cooperative research in Hamburg and establish a broad platform for innovation, education, and research, primarily through university and nonuniversity cooperation.
Following the resolution to expand PIER PLUS, it now includes a total of 8 Hamburg universities and 14 nonuniversity institutions, among them partners from the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, the Helmholtz Association, and the Max Planck Society. Cooperation will cover above all research, support for doctoral and early career researchers, knowledge and technology exchange, and science and research communication. Cooperation topics include physics and nanosciences; infection and structural systems biology in Science City Hamburg-Bahrenfeld; health and infection; climate and coasts; conflic and coordination; climate-friendly mobility; and new materials.
With 22 university and nonuniversity scientific institutions, PIEL PLUS can now establish better conditions for cooperation in the City of Hamburg. Together, new potential can be tapped to shape the future of scientific pursuit in Hamburg and to advance strategic scientific topics in the city.
