Grade conversion using the Bavarian formula

This grade converter can be used to convert grades from abroad to the German grading system.

Please note that the converter is for orientation only and does not provide binding information.

The converter uses of the "modified Bavarian formula" for conversion. Further information can be found in German in the resolution of the Conference of the Ministers of Education on the determination of the overall grade for foreign university entrance certificates (PDF).

Grade conversionEnter the highest grade issued by your school or university into the first column. In the second column, enter the grade that is equivalent to a pass at your school or university. Enter your own final grade into the third column. The result is the equivalent of your grade in the German system, where 1.0 is the best grade, and 4.0 is a bare pass. Please enter grades with decimal places with a dot. Example: 2.3
