Language requirements

All undergraduate programs at Universität Hamburg that lead to the Staatsexamen (state examination), Diplom/Magister or Bakkalaureat qualifications require applicants to demonstrate sufficient proficiency in German. Certain programs require additional foreign language prerequisites. English skills are always conducive to academic success.

Our master's programs in German require sufficient German skills. At Universität Hamburg, English-language master's programs are either conducted entirely in English or in a combination of German and English. Please check the relevant program descriptions for language requirements.
