Certificate "Research Management: "Developing Potential, Shaping the Future"

The program starts with a two-day kick-off workshop. Doctoral and postdoctoral researchers have to participate in both days, active research managers will join on the second day.

Day 1 – For doctoral and postdoctoral researchers only:

• Insight into the professional field of research management (obligatory participation in the Food for Thought "Berufsfeld Wissenschaftsmanagement")
• Working conditions in research management
• Individual goal setting for participation in the program

Day 2 – For all target groups

• The German academic system
• Perspectives in research management
• Leadership in research management
• Further individual goal setting for participation in the program

These days are also about networking and the development of individual profiles.

Several times a year, there will be quality circles "Research Management", which will be accompanied by us. For these, participants in the program must develop a topic of their own choice, write it up and present it.

Participants must have attended the "Quality Circle" twice in order to successfully complete the program; they only have to prepare something themselves once.

The dates will be communicated to all certificate participants by e-mail.

In the competency areas, participants have the opportunity to expand their skills and sharpen their qualifications and professionalism in relation to their personal goals. They are responsible for deciding which topics from the areas are to be focused on. A total of at least 24 time hours must be invested in order to successfully complete the program.

We offer courses in the following areas:

1. Up, Side, Down  – Strengthening Collaboration, Enabling Leadership.

Research management is a complex environment. In some cases there are disciplinary leadership roles, and in others there is lateral or non-mandated leadership. This area aims to strengthen skills and competencies in lateral leadership and collaboration across hierarchical levels. It is about recognizing and leveraging the benefits of collaboration in all directions to develop innovative solutions, build effective teams, and promote knowledge transfer.

2. Embracing Differences  – Living Diversity, Unleashing Potentials

In this area, participants can learn to value different perspectives, create inclusive work environments, and how to implement diversity in the higher education context.

3. Navigate the Path  – Steering Strategically, Achieving Goals

This area focuses on developing strategic steering skills in research management: analyzing complex challenges, setting strategic goals, and developing effective measures to achieve them. Aspects of governance and change management are also considered in order to successfully navigate the path and shape the development of organizations in the academic sector.

4. Sustain the Future  – Acting Sustainably, Promoting Innovation

This area is about integrating sustainable principles and practices into activities and developing innovative approaches to drive positive change. It also considers issues such as resource management, environmental protection, social responsibility, and long-term perspectives to support a sustainable future in the academic sector.

After sufficient qualification courses have been attended and the necessary work for the quality circle has been completed, the participants must carry out a final reflection and have the opportunity to take advantage of an individual career counseling.
