German Research Foundation (DFG)
One of the DFG’s main areas of focus is funding of doctoral and early career researchers. Its offers funding for all stages of an academic career and supports research projects in all disciplines.
The DFG offers several different funding formats to support the academic careers of postdoctoral researchers. These include, for example, the research fellowship, the Walter Benjamin program, the module temporary positions for principal investigators (PDF), and the Emmy Noether program.
Once the requirements for a tenured professorship have been met, the DFG’s Heisenberg Program gives early career researchers the opportunity to further qualify themselves for an academic leadership position and to work on their outstanding research projects.
