Student research groups

The project Culture of Remembrance—Our History, Our Culture brings together the University of Hamburg and the University of Education in Winneba, Ghana. Six students take a close look at the history of the Schimmelmann family and their involvement in the slave trade. The research project receives funding within the Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State Governments.

Minimally invasive operation techniques are increasingly replacing more conventional operation procedures. Yet for operating doctors, these internal procedures are especially daunting and the opportunities to practice are few and far between. A student research group at Universität Hamburg—University of Excellence now wants to change that.

At 16.6 percent of the population, the number of people in Germany who are threatened by poverty reached a new high last year. Helen Dambach and Mats Pachalli are analyzing how people experience poverty, and why they are revealing their problems. Universität Hamburg—University of Excellence funds research projects as part of the Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State Governments.

Artificial intelligence is involved in the creation of artworks. It challenges our aesthetic assumptions and creates legal quandaries—say Dalia Moniat and Sarah Steffens. With funds from the Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State Governments, the students are researching the issue.
