Application requirements and selection process
Your Deutschlandstipendium application:
these prerequisites need to be met
Recipients of a Deutschlandstipendium (Germany Scholarship) grant should be willing to engage in a dialogue with their sponsor(s). We expect an interest in attending the events (in person and online) organized within the scope of the program.
Selection process at the University of Hamburg
After the application deadline, the Deutschlandstipendium team checks all applications for completeness. Applications that are missing information or supporting documents will not be considered.
Afterwards, the selection committee evaluates the applications based on its selection criteria using the following weighting, with each application being evaluated by 2 reviewers (four-eyes principle):
- Excellent school grades and academic achievements and special aptitude: 70%
- Social commitment: 15%
- Obstacles in life and education: 10%
- Demonstrable interest in sustainability (in the broadest sense): 5%
As per the University of Hamburg’s Deutschlandstipendium guidelines, the selection committee consists of 2 members from each faculty. These members are required to maintain confidentiality regarding all personal data. Upon completion of the selection process, the successful scholarship recipients are assigned to sponsors based on the available scholarships. All applicants then receive an acceptance or rejection letter in the post or by email. At the official award ceremony in February, all new scholarship recipients meet their sponsors and receive their certificates.
