Step 2: Application (Application period: 01 December - 15 January)

1. Create a STiNE account for your online application:

Once you have registered on hochschulstart.de, create an application account in Universität Hamburg’s online portal (STiNE) at www.uni-hamburg.de/online-bewerbung.

Note: You can create an account at any time, but you can only apply from the first day in the application period.

2. Online application (1 December - 15 January):

You can now prepare your application in your account in Universität Hamburg’s online portal (STiNE). Follow the instructions in the online application and complete all of the required fields.

You will be asked right at the start to enter your BID and BAN under the “Externe Verfahren” (external procedure) tab. Complete all sections of the online application form and use the “Vollständigkeit prüfen” (Check form is complete) function to ensure it is complete. Where necessary, you will be prompted to add further details. Once you have completed your online application and checked that it is complete, the “Abschicken” (Send) button will appear.

3. Supporting documents to submit with your application

Some applicants must also upload copies of certain supporting documents in the online application. Be sure to check here whether this applies to you. If you are applying for several degree programs via the DoSV procedure, you need to upload the necessary supporting documents for each individual application.

4. Set priorities on hochschulstart.de:

If you want to apply for several degree programs participating in the DoSV procedure, prioritize your choices on hochschulstart.de (i.e., order these by preference). We recommend you set your priorities as soon as possible. If you do not prioritize your choices by the end of the decision phase (Step 4), your applications will be ordered according to the submission date. This means that the application you submit first will have the highest priority.

Note: Prioritization does not affect the likelihood of you being offered a university place.

Checklist of what to do before the application deadline:

Register on hochschulstart.de (Step 1).
Set up an application account in Universität Hamburg’s online portal (STiNE).
Check your online application is complete and submit it electronically.
Prioritize your choices.

Once you have completed all of the above points, proceed to Step 3: Coordination phase.

Applying with notification of deferral

If you received notification of deferral or an acceptance letter from Universität Hamburg for a previous application via hochschulstart.de for your chosen degree program at Universität Hamburg, you can also apply for preferential admission when you apply online. This is only possible if you reapply for the same degree program. Submit your special application electronically and upload a copy of the notification of deferral or acceptance letter and uncertified proof of the service provided or parental in the special application.

Multiple applications via the DoSV procedure

You may apply for a maximum of 3 degree programs at Universität Hamburg at the same time via the DoSV procedure. However, you cannot simultaneously apply for different degree programs at Universität Hamburg using different procedures: you must either submit via the DoSV procedure or not.

Different application deadlines at other universities

Be aware that different deadlines may apply at other universities that award places via hochschulstart.de. The deadlines indicated here apply for Universität Hamburg. You can create an online application account in Universität Hamburg’s portal in advance, but can only apply during Universität Hamburg’s application period.

How can I apply if I already have a STiNE account?

If you already have a STiNE account (e.g., because you are or were already enrolled at Universität Hamburg), use this to apply. Log into STiNE and click on “Applying online.” The online application procedure is otherwise identical.
