FAQ
Who can take part in the program?
The program is aimed at people who are motivated to apply for a study place, have knowledge of the German language to at least B1 level and are interested in a subject offered at a university in Hamburg.
Please note that the offer takes place daily, regular presence in Hamburg is therefore necessary. Currently, there is no possibility of a travel allowance, so transportation to and from the program activities must be organized independently.
What can I learn from the program?
The study orientation program #UHHhilft follows the motto "Integration through Education" and ensures that the participants of the program are supported by various individuals in their orientation process. For this purpose, there are available classes thematically linked to the offers at the educational institutions in Hamburg. The various activities of the program take place in these specialist classes.
Experienced students and employees of the UHH support the participants in the first weeks at the university and thus ensure genuine hospitality. In addition, campus tours, canteen tours, library tours and visits to the social and Bafög consultations are carried out by the Studierendenwerk Hamburg. Participants are given the opportunity by committed students and employees of the UHH, in the so-called buddy program, to receive personal support from a contact person for everyday problems around the university.
Further offers serve to get to know the subjects at The University of Hamburg. In this way, selected lectures are presented that are open to prospective students in the various departments of Universität Hamburg. We invite the participants to get to know the courses of study through targeted visits to courses and thus to secure their subject decision.
Furthermore, there is the individual interviews offer together with the student advisory service of UHH where the necessary steps for the selection and application for a study place is created together. The participants receive assistance in the preparation and implementation of recognition procedures for certificates and degrees, such as by uni-assist. For a limited number of participants, we offer a supplementary offer to expand individual competence in the use of the German language. This helps the participants to meet the admission requirements of Universität Hamburg as quickly as possible.
In order to consider the specific needs of the female participants, the provision of special classes is available; such as a regular women's meeting, an important part of the program.
Last but not least, the participants are be given the opportunity to participate in the sports offer at the educational location. This offer is ideal for promoting friendly contacts between students and refugees outside of lectures.
When exactly does the program start?
#UHHhilft's program schedules are based on the semester plan of Universität Hamburg. That's why our program starts at the beginning of each semester – in April and October.
For how long is the program?
Each program session lasts one semester, i.e. half a year. As a rule, the regular offer ends at the end of the lecture period, i.e. in mid-July or mid-February. But we are also available for you during the semester break.
Are students also involved in the program?
Yes, students of the Universitaet from all faculties are involved in a variety of ways. They are involved as advisers, Buddies in the buddy program, tutors and contact persons for the class groups and much more.
