Questions about the #UHHhilft program
Who can take part in the program?
Refugees who would like to study at a Hamburg university and have at least a B1 German level can register.
The course takes place once a week on site at Universität Hamburg. It is not possible to participate digitally.
What can I learn from the program?
The study orientation programme #UHHhilft pursues the goal of ‘integration through education’ and supports all participants on their way to university. The focus is on the weekly welcome-class, which runs from April to September (summer semester) and from October to March (winter semester). The welcome-class takes place once a week at the University of Hamburg throughout the semester. Participants meet regularly in these classes and receive important information on all topics related to their studies. The welcome-classes are taught by our student tutors. Experts from various institutions, such as the preparatory college, the student services organisation, and the university sports department, also visit to provide valuable insights and information.

In addition there are other offerings such as campus tours, cafeteria tours, and library tours. Furthermore, you have the opportunity to participate in social activities. The aim of the programme is to create space for exchange and encounter. You will also have the opportunity to participate in sports activities at the UHH. This is an ideal way to promote friendly contacts between students and refugees outside of lectures. In this way, #UHHhilft participants are also socially connected to university life.
In addition, we work closely with the UHH's international student advisory service to offer individual consultations. Here, we support you in creating a plan for selecting and applying for a place at university. You will also receive valuable support with the recognition of certificates and degrees.
When exactly does the program start?
#UHHhilft's program schedules are based on the semester plan of Universität Hamburg. That's why our program starts at the beginning of each semester – in April and October.
Can I come to the consultation with a child?
Yes, no problem!
We also have a small selection of toys and coloring materials so that your child doesn't get bored during the day.
Is the consultation accessible by wheelchair?
Yes, the Coordination Center is wheelchair accessible. The other relevant rooms at the university are also wheelchair accessible.
For how long is the program?
Each program session lasts one semester, i.e. half a year. As a rule, the regular offer ends at the end of the lecture period, i.e. in mid-July or mid-February. But we are also available for you during the semester break.
How can I register for #UHHhilft?
The registration procedure is carried out via the online registration form. To complete your registartion, you will need basic information about yourself and your previous experience at school and/or university. If you have any questions about the registration process, the team at the Coordination Office will be happy to help.
After the registration phase, we will check the documents received. We will then get back to you.

What do I need to study at Universität Hamburg?
To study at Universität Hamburg, you need a C1 level of German. You can find an overview of which German certificates are accepted at Universität Hamburg here.
You also need a university entrance qualification (HZB). In order to get this, you need to have your certificate recognized. If you would like to study at Universität Hamburg, this certificate recognition is free of charge. When you register for our program, we will do the certificate recognition together with you. As soon as we have the result of the recognition, we can discuss your next steps on the path to studying.

What do I need to study at Universität Hamburg?
The bonus point system applies to applicants from non-EU countries. This system applies ONLY to the University of Hamburg. Other universities have different regulations. You can achieve a certain number of points in each box. The more points you get, the higher your chances of getting a place.
In the NC values table for non-EU applicants, you can see how many points you have needed in recent years for the respective degree program to get a place. These points can change every year. You can never predict how many points you will need for the coming semester to get a place.

On this website you will find all degree programs at Universität Hamburg. You can set filters and only search for Bachelor's or Master's degree programs.
