General questions about the CIC
- Is there a registration deadline for the CIC?
No. You can register anytime. - Do I need to fulfill certificate requirements within a given period of time?
You need to fulfill requirements within your period of study at Universität Hamburg or up to a year following completion of your program.
Questions about the length of your stay abroad
- "You should study or work abroad for at least two months." How exactly are these two months calculated?
Two months means a minimum of eight weeks. - Do these two months apply to the internship itself or total time abroad?
Time abroad is recognized if, for example, you attend a language course for two weeks and subsequently complete a six-week internship. - Can time abroad during a semester break be recognized?
Yes! - If international students spend time in Germany, is this considered "time abroad"?
Yes!
Questions about recognizing achievements
- I think I have all my documents together. What now?
Fill out the checklists detailing certificates for the various components or have the appropriate offices confirm these. Make an appointment with the CIC coordinator and bring your original documents to CIC office hours. We'll go through your documents together and, if everything is in order, we'll issue the certificate. - If I have no printed certificates but the course is listed in STINE, can my participation still be recognized?
Yes! STINE can print out your achievements and you can submit the print-out as proof.
Questions about issuing the certificate
- Can courses in various languages, such as "Spanish I" and "French II," be recognized for Component D?
Yes. - Do you need to submit a certificate (including proof of exams) for every language course?
No. It is sufficient to submit a certificate attesting to participation (min. 80% attendance) in an elective area (elective area known as "optional area" as of summer semester 2013). Of course, you can also submit certificates attesting to successful completion of coursework and exams. - While studying, I attended courses or lectures with an international facet. Can these courses be recognized for one of the Components?
Yes. In addition to language courses, other courses, seminars and lectures with an international facet can be recognized for Component D. These courses may not, however, form an integral part of your major. - Are German language courses which I attend as an international student recognized for Component D?
Yes! - Are courses on German history or culture which I attend as an international student recognized?
