Rejection for "formal" reasons

If your rejection letter states that your application had to be excluded from the selection procedure, you were rejected for "formal" reasons . This indicates that your application was unsuccessful because it did not meet our formal requirements and could not be processed further.  Hence, your exclusion is not due to strong competition or  any low achievements on your behalf.

Probable reasons are that required documents were:

• not submitted by the application deadline
• submitted but incomplete
• submitted but did not meet the prerequisites.

Can I participate in the succession procedure if my application was excluded for "formal" reasons?

No! If you were rejected for "formal" reasons, your application was excluded before the selection procedure for it did not meet the selection criteria or the latter could not be verified. Thus, your application did not enter our ranking for the allocation of study places and cannot be considered in the succession procedure either.

Any application thus rejected can neither be selected in the succession procedure. You can of course re-apply for a degree program at Universität Hamburg within a future application period.

Your only chance is participation in the late placement for available spaces. Late placement procedures are only conducted if there are no further applications for remaining vacancies after the succession procedure. At Universität Hamburg this a rare phenomenon in only very few degree programs. Information on late placement for available spaces will be published shortly before the commencement of classes on the University's main web page.
