University Council of Universität Hamburg

Universität Hamburg's University Council has nine honorary members, four appointed by the Academic Senate and four by the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. These eight members elect a ninth member as well as a chairperson and deputy chair from among the non-University members.

The Council is largely responsible for the strategic control of the University. In addition to electing the University President and Kanzler , the University Council authorizes business plans and accepts the Executive University Board's annual reports.

On 19 June 2020, the members of the University Council elected Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Petra Wend CBE PhD FRSA FRSE as chair.

 On 25 September 2020, the members of the University Council elected Assistant Professor Dr. Jörn Pütz as its ninth member.
