Individual
You can design your studies according to your interests and spend your time intensively focusing on the topics that most interest you.
For your major and minor, you can choose degree programs that in some cases are unique in Germany.
In the free elective area, you can supplement your studies with courses from other subject areas.
We also award special certificates a for studies with an interdisciplinary focus, for example, entrepreneurship, sustainability, or intercultural competence.
We have a standardized review procedure to ensure the quality of our bachelor’s and master’s programs. They bear the seal of the Accreditation Council.
Every semester, our teaching staff add exciting new ideas to the range of seminars and lectures. Many have been awarded the Hamburg Teaching Prize for their commitment, after being nominated by students.

Digital
For us, digital and hybrid teaching are as standard as the lecture hall.
Digital tools are also par for the course for organizing studies, studying, and preparing for exams.
In your studies here, you will learn about the role that scientific data play and how to use them, including in your own student projects.

Research-based
An integral part of our teaching guidelines is that research and teaching always go hand-in-hand. The teaching guidelines define our idea of good teaching.
Concretely, this means: your instructors are conducting research on the topics they teach.
From the very outset, you will gain insight into how research works. You can use what you learn directly in student research groups.

Application oriented
While studying, you can already work on research projects and gain insight into possible career fields.
Your studies are a great opportunity to make an active contribution to society. For example, you can work on sustainability with the Green Office, or get involved at the Refugee Law Clinic.
The UHHengagiert network combines research, practical application, and social commitment.
