Together with the Hamburg Observatory, University Music is hosting a festival with different music genres and some astronomy and astrophysics thrown in for good measure. The music performances will be given primarily by the University’s student music ensembles— outdoors and in the library. The music will cover classical, choir, electronic sound collage, brass and big band, and folk music.
In addition to chamber music pieces, there will also be scientific talks, sound installations, and combined scientific/musical performances in the domed observatory buildings. Furthermore, observatory staff members will be giving guided tours around the premises and through the historical buildings. Starting at 10 pm, you can take a peek through the telescopes. The site’s new Café Stellar and various food trucks will be providing food and drink. There is also a children’s program.
You can buy tickets via the festival website or at the ticket counter on site. On Friday, 21 July, the festival begins and 4 pm and ends at midnight. Admission is €5. On Saturday, 22 July, festivities begin at 12 noon and end at around 2 am the next day. Admission is €5. If you book both days, the ticket price is €14.
