“Science on Tap lives from interaction with the public,” says Prof. Dr. Jan Louis, vice president of Universität Hamburg and event initiator. “That’s why we are really happy to appear live in Hamburg pubs again this year and talk about our research.” DESY director Prof. Dr. Helmut Dosch adds: “And even though many of our colleagues have done research on the coronavirus and its spread, we consciously chose to avoid this topic this year.”
The pandemic threw a wrench into the event in the past few years and this year, the organizers have taken precautions by hosting a smaller event with “only” roughly 20 bars and pubs throughout Hamburg. The goal of Science on Tap, however, remains the same: to introduce a broader public to hot-button scientific topics in Hamburg and to show that they are fascinating and anything but dry.
Science on Tap is organized by DESY and Universität Hamburg. They enjoy the support of the University’s clusters of excellence CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter and Quantum Universe as well as PIER, the strategic partnership between DESY and Universität Hamburg.
