SustainabilityFirst University of Hamburg Sustainability Camp Promotes Exchange Among Researchers
23 October 2024, by Newsroom editorial office
The Sustainability Camp is a dynamic platform aimed at strengthening the University’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Bringing together researchers with their various sustainability-related topics, the barcamp format promotes interdisciplinary exchange and inspires new cooperations.
To start, the Sustainability Office had invited 25 researchers from all disciplines to the atrium of the State and University Library to present their projects and discuss their work relating to the Sustainability Development Goals with the audience. The barcamp was opened by Prof. Dr. Tilo Böhmann, vice president for research, and Prof. Dr. Laura Marie Edinger-Schons, Chief Sustainability Officer of the University of Hamburg. Various research centers with a focus on sustainability then presented their work (Earth and Society Research Hub, Research Unit Sustainability and Climate Risks, Sustainable Finance Research Group, DFG Humanities Centre for Advanced Studies Futures of Sustainability) before the researchers’ elevator pitches on selected SDGs.
“It is our main aim to promote cooperation and facilitate research partnerships that address pressing social and economic challenges,” said Prof. Dr. Laura Edinger-Schons in her welcome speech. “We encourage all researchers to network across the departments and SDGs and explore exciting opportunities inside and outside our University. Let us reinforce our joint efforts and contribute to sustainable development.”
After this successful launch, the Sustainability Camp shall be offered yearly.
