In the latest edition of the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, the University of Hamburg was ranked 132nd among more than 2,000 universities worldwide and 12th among German universities.
The ranking system evaluates universities on the basis of reputation surveys, university statistical data, and publication measurements. In the last category, the University of Hamburg was able to increase its score. The number of publications per author (research productivity) rose by around four points to 95.6 out of a possible 100 points. The University also saw its points increase for all 4 indicators in the area of research quality, which includes citations and publications in highly cited journals.
Last year, THE began counting citations of universities’ research publications in patents in order to track their impact in the area of technology transfer. With 99.2 (out of a possible 100) points, the University of Hamburg is one of the best universities in the world in this area.
THE publishes the World University Rankings annually. In total, 17 differently weighted indicators are used for the ranking system. The current rankings list 2,857 universities worldwide, of which 50 are universities in Germany.
