The University of Hamburg is one of the first U15 universities to sign up to a German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) voluntary commitment. In taking this step, universities are reaffirming their continued commitment to gender equality in appointments.
The University of Hamburg supports the goals formulated in the voluntary commitment and the measures that contribute to the realization of gender-equitable structural change. By signing up, the University of Hamburg agrees to work toward sustainable structural change at the University through an institutional strategy supported by all University committees.
The voluntary commitment comprises 5 specific points:
- recruitment that actively expands the pool of suitable candidates
- gender-equitable academic search procedures
- the establishment of gender-equitable remuneration structures
- Institution-wide establishment of gender awareness and gender competence
- Institutional monitoring
In addition to the HRK’s voluntary commitment, a further measure will see the University of Hamburg regularly enter the institutionally established instruments in the publicly accessible Center of Excellence Women and Science (CEWS) database.
German Rectors’ Conference (HRK)
The German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) is the voluntary association of state and state-recognized universities in Germany. The member universities are represented in the HRK by their executive university boards and rector’s offices.
The HRK currently has 271 member universities, which account for around 90 percent of all enrolled students in Germany. The HRK is thus the voice of the universities vis-à-vis politics and the public and is also the central forum for joint opinion-forming and decision-making in the higher education system.
