Information for landlords

The University of Hamburg's Housing Service for international researchers is seeking apartment owners and landlords who can offer a room or apartments for rent or sublet. You determine the duration, period, and price. Ideally, you can provide accommodation for at least a month.

Some researchers stay only a few weeks; others for several months and in some cases, a few years. Some come alone, others bring their families. For most international researchers seeking short-term accommodation, furnished apartments or rooms in shared apartments are best.

Most of our international researchers need to submit a rental contract in writing to authorities, for example, to get their residence permit. You can find templates for rental contracts, for example, at the German rent association.

The Welcome Service is not involved in the rental agreement (concluding or issuing) and thus cannot be held liable.

In the confirmation of tenancy, the landlord or landlady confirms that the tenant lives in the apartment in question. Everyone subject to mandatory registration must be given a confirmation of tenancy so they can complete their mandatory registration within 2 weeks after moving into the apartment. When registering a new residence, renters must submit their confirmation of tenancy to the authorities. The rental contract is not sufficient. Where the tenancy is governed by a sublease agreement (e.g., in a shared apartment), the main tenant is responsible for issuing the confirmation of tenancy responsible.
