Theoretical Philosophy

This cooperation aims at exploring different philosophical conceptions of reality, as well as our cognitive and linguistic representation thereof.

The project focusses particularly, though not exclusively, on issues related to the topic Grounds, Reasons, Causes, which is a core research area of the Department of Philosophy in Hamburg. Issues that are dealt with include, for instance, the nature and variety of consequence relations, human agency and free will, or different conceptions of what there is, i.e. of the constituents of reality.

The issues that are dealt with are addressed not only from a systematic perspective but also from a historical point of view, where both Asian and European traditions are taken into account.

For the time being, the project is arranged around a series of workshops at which philosophers from the participating universities present their current work.
