Laser Physics and Integrated Optics
The joint research activities in laser physics and integrated optics will be continued within the strategic partnership between Universität Hamburg and Macquarie University. In the first year of the funding period compact narrow linewidth lasers, which offer high potential for various scientific and commercial applications, were developed.
During a research stay of one Universität Hamburg staff member at Macquarie University the first Yb:YAG DFB waveguide laser chip was fabricated (figure 1) together with Martin Ams from CUDOS at Macquarie University, measuring the transmission spectrum of this device in figure 2.
This success was only made possible due to the mutual exchange of scientific staff with complementary expertise in different but related topics. This successful approach will be continued in future collaborations to further research in the field of laser physics.
