Component D
Component D: Intercultural Studies
Component D is an elective and focuses on a variety of international and intercultural topics as well as language acquisition. You should submit two courses from this topic area, as follows: two lectures/seminars with international and/or intercultural relevance OR two language courses OR one language course and one seminar/lecture with international relevance.
Courses submitted must be both extracurricular and outside of your course of study, i.e., they may not be within the curriculum in the required area of your degree program. Courses within the elective area can be accredited.
All of these courses must lie outside your official subject area, i.e., a student of English Studies cannot submit courses in English studies. You can either take follow-up language courses or courses in two different languages.
A certificate of participation is sufficient proof. Examples of courses that may be accredited are: East Asian cultural and social studies, the history of Finland. International students may of course also have courses about Germany and German language courses accredited.
You can find accreditable courses for the CIC in the General Lecture Series. Courses that may be accredited for the CIC are denoted with the CIC logo.
