Energy-Saving Measures
In the months ahead, there may be changes in the energy supply. At Universität Hamburg, studies, teaching, research, knowledge exchange, and administration should continue to take place in person. To this end, the University has developed a strategy to prepare as best as possible for any restrictions. The strategy primarily covers upgrades to building operations, but each and every member of the University can also help us save energy.
Saving Energy—A Group Effort
Saving energy succeeds best when all members of Universität Hamburg look at how to save energy in their immediate environment and agree with colleagues on the necessary steps. It is possible to save energy in the following areas:
Heating
- Set the thermostat to between levels “2” and “3”—roughly 19 degrees Celsius (max. possible room temperature).
- When you leave the room, set to frost protection mode.
- Keep radiators clear of clutter.
- Private heaters are not allowed.
- Close doors to colder rooms.
- Open and close windows at regular intervals—do not keep them open.
Lighting
- Turn off the light when you leave the room.
- Turn off the light in unused hallways.
- Turn off the light after you use restrooms without motion detectors.
- Desk lamps with power supply units must be disconnected or use a power strip that can be turned off.
Water
- Use cold water.
Equipment
- Set refrigerators to their lowest level.
- Do not leave refrigerator doors open too long.
- Properly shut off stand-by devices or remove these directly from their sockets.
