Generative AI tools such as ChatGPT and others raise many questions at the University of Hamburg—not only regarding the fundamental goals of higher education but also about new practical possibilities for teaching and specific exam-related aspects. Our event series and Community of Practice “AI Hands-On” focuses on such aspects. The session will address the question, "What must students learn anew in times of generative AI?"
(Generative) AI has opened new possibilities for all of us—including students. While there are growing calls for better plagiarism check tools, we would like to approach the topic from a didactic perspective. In a joint research project by DDLitLab and HUL, we have explored what new knowledge and skills students need to use generative AI responsibly and constructively in their studies.
In this AI Hands-On session, we will present and discuss our approach and findings. Additionally, we will collectively address how you can create space for these topics in your own teaching— or perhaps you are already doing so as a good practice example?
