A lasting ceasefire is the first step towards peace in Israel and Palestine. To achieve this, almost all societies must be changed. The conflict, which has lasted for over 75 years, can only be prevented from escalating again and again if the international community – of people and states - is determined to bring about peace with honest compassion and humanistic rationality. Fundamental change is just as necessary here as it is there.
Our guests, Rotem Levin and Osama Iliwat, are members of the organization "Combatants for Peace". This is a movement of Israelis and Palestinians that was founded in 2006 by former fighters from both sides. Through non-violent resistance, creative activism, education and dialog, they campaign for an end to the occupation and for peace, equality and freedom.
This personal commitment is a challenge to the system of oppression and drives the construction of a peaceful and liberated society from the ground up: human beings create their own conditions.
Combatants for Peace is a living example that a different reality is possible in Palestine/Israel. At the event, they will talk about the path of change they have taken to change reality. They will talk about humanity in times of dehumanization and war and about their hope and the courage to generalize this hope. In particular, we want to discuss what conclusions we can draw from this for our commitment to peace here. Everyone is cordially invited to take part.
Our guests will speak English. Questions can be asked in German and then translated.
