It is particularly noteworthy that the University was able to move from rank 7 to 4 in the humanities and social sciences. With €72.4 million in DFG funding, the University has assumed a leadership position through the acquisition of funds in these fields. In staff-related terms, there was a significant increase: The University has improved from rank 19 in the 2021 funding atlas to rank 7 with around €224,000 of DFG funding per professorship—a 54% increase.
The University of Hamburg also demonstrates research strength in the natural sciences, where DFG external funding grants increased by over 15% percent compared to the DFG funding atlas 2021. With €68.4 million, the university achieved 6th place here—one rank up.
