President Hauke Heekeren with Delegation in SingaporeThe University of Hamburg agrees to cooperation with Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

The University of Hamburg’s president, Prof. Dr. Hauke Heekeren, is currently traveling for several days alongside Hamburg’s mayor, Dr. Peter Tschentscher. Nanyang Technological University is an important stop in Singapore and for the academic delegation that Heekeren is part of. NTU is one of Asia’s strongest research universities and, in international rankings, regularly ranks at the top.
By setting up this new agreement, the University of Hamburg strives for sustainable cooperation in research and teaching, especially in the fields of data science, machine learning, and climate research. This is why the joint letter of intent with the NTU includes funding for exchanges between faculties, administrative offices, departments, and research institutions. Currently, cooperation between the Faculty of Education at the University of Hamburg and the National Institute for Education at NTU is being developed in the areas of teacher training and international internships.
Hauke Heekeren: “As a University of Excellence we want to become even more international. The letter of intent with Nanyang Technological University in Singapore is an important milestone in this effort. With NTU, we have a strong partner to expand our network in Asia. It is now more important than ever to promote direct exchange in key areas such as twin transformation, AI, and climate research across continental boundaries. I am delighted about the first promising cooperative projects that will now be further developed and I thank the team at NTU and their president, Ho Teck Hua, for their hospitality.”
Dr. Peter Tschentscher, First Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg: “Hamburg is a European center of scientific endeavor. Cooperation with Nanyang Technological University in Singapore strengthens the University of Hamburg’s international orientation. This adds a top Asian institution to Hamburg’s research network.
