Universität Hamburg and the University of Leeds agree strategic partnership

The delegation comprises Universitätspräsident Prof. Dr. Hauke Heekeren, Prof. Dr. Laura-Marie Edinger-Schons (Chief Sustainability Officer), Prof. Dr. Silke Segler-Meßner (Dean of he Faculty of Humanities), and Prof. Dr. Norbert Ritter (Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences). The University’s partnerships aim for sustainable collaboration and development in research and teaching. Cooperation includes exchanges for students and researchers as well as joint doctoral and research projects, among other things.
University president Prof. Dr. Hauke Heekeren: “As a University of Excellence we want to become even more international. The strategic partnership with the University of Leeds is a crucial milestone. It adds a strong partner from the all-important United Kingdom to our network. Building bridges internationally and fostering transnational exchange is now more important than ever. I am delighted that we are pursuing this goal together with our partners in Leeds.”
The universities are planning to intensify their cooperation on research: A joint program currently provides funding for 7 research projects. In addition, the 2 universities are developing a concept for a staff exchange program.
Both universities are strongly committed to the „Knowledge Equity Network“ (KEN) established by the University of Leeds in 2022. Universität Hamburg joined the network in 2023. Its goal is to address global challenges by making pioneering research and research-based education accessible to all. The University of Leeds is one of the leading research institutions in the United Kingdom and a member of the Russell Group. The Russell Group is an association of 24 designated research universities of excellence in the United Kingdom.
