The two day event is being run by the House of Computing and Data Science (HCDS) at Universität Hamburg, together with partners from the academic platforms PIER PLUS as well as the Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Hamburg and held in the Audimax at Universität Hamburg. Over 400 participants, including teams of authors from almost every university and nonuniversity research institution in the metropolitan region will provide over 150 poster-based presentations.
Participants will be welcomed by the president of Universität Hamburg, Prof. Dr. Hauke Heekeren; Dr. Rolf Greve, the head of the Office of Science and Research (in the Ministry of Science, Research, Equalities and District, BWFGB); and Christian Pfromm, Chief Digital Officer from the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. The leading minds from a range of research institutions in Hamburg will then conduct a discussion on the opportunities and risks offered by digitalization with representatives from business and politics: Prof. Dr. Andreas Timm-Giel (Hamburg University of Technology, TUHH), Dr. Annette Hamann (ITEC e.V. and Beiersdorf), Prof. Dr. Blanche Schwappach-Pignataro (University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf), Prof. Dr. Cord Jakobeit (Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Hamburg), Prof. Dr. Philipp Moll (Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter), Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schulz (Hans-Bredow-Institut for Media Research) and Dr. Rolf Greve.
Following the discussion, partner institutions from PIER PLUS and other inter-institutional initiatives will each provide short presentations in two sessions operating at the same time. These are accompanied by a forum for exchange in the metropolitan region to identify needs and potential synergies, organized by Universität Hamburg’s Knowledge Exchange Agency. At the end of the day, there will an opportunity to chat with other participants and build networks.
Prof. Dr. Tilo Böhmann, vice president for research, research funding, and digitalization, Prof. Dr. Laura Edinger-Schons, chief sustainability officer, and Prof. Dr. Sebastian Gerling, chief digital officer, all from Universität Hamburg, will greet attendees to the second day. Universität Hamburg institutions will then present themselves, including the House of Computing and Data Science with its cross-disciplinary labs, the four clusters of excellence at the University and the faculty and relevant administrative institutions. Following this, two prizes will be awarded: The Sustainability Poster Award honors research that combines constructive contributions to the twin transformation, i.e. digitization and sustainability. There will also be a public choice award for outstanding work.
