Science on Tap proves that scientific pursuit is anything but dry—it is cutting-edge and exciting. Every year since 2015, the series has enticed researchers from their labs and lecture halls into Hamburg’s pubs and bars, where they provide some insight into their work. Their entertaining and accessible talks as well as their exchange with their listeners focus on topics from the natural sciences, the humanities, the social sciences, and education.
This year, there will be talks on climate negotiations, generating energy, and AI as well as what comics have to do with education, whether black holes are dangerous, and how and where we might work in the future. This year, pubs and bars from Othmarschen to Bergedorf and Eimsbüttel to Harburg—including Schenefeld—will be taking part; researchers will even be venturing across Hamburg’s borders into Schleswig-Holstein.
The program begins at all the participating bars and pubs at the same time—8 pm—and is free. Science on Tap is organized by DESY and Universität Hamburg. They enjoy the support of the University’s clusters of excellence CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter and Quantum Universe as well as Pier Plus, the strategic partnership between DESY and Universität Hamburg.
See www.wissenvomfass.de for an overview of participating bars and topics.
