The European University Alliance for Global Health (EUGLOH) offers students and researchers from 9 European universities networking opportunities so that they can expand their knowledge in the field of global health. The University of Hamburg hosted 2 events in September.
Thirty-two students and early career researchers from 8 universities took part in the Co-Creating Innovation event from 9 to 13 September. Nonuniversity partner institutions also took part, such as Siemens Healthineers AG and numerous Helmholtz centers, arranging challenges on various topics in the field of global health. Dr. Marvin Grüne, product manager at Siemens Healthineers AG and cocreator of a challenge on innovative applications of X-ray methods, highlighted the diversity of cultural perspectives and research areas of the participants. This has enriched his group’s work.
In addition, a design thinking workshop, among other workshops, was offered by an innovation consultancy. The event was organized by the Department of International Affairs and the Knowledge Exchange Agency at the University of Hamburg.
Making an Impact! Skills for Career Paths in and beyond Academia
From 23 to 27 September, EUGLOH hosted the Making an Impact! Skills for Career Paths in and beyond Academia event—the first Erasmus+ blended intensive program (BIP) at the University of Hamburg. Twenty-three international doctoral researchers from 10 of the University of Hamburg’s partner universities took the opportunity to spend a week developing strategies for conscious and effective career planning. The concepts of public engagement and sciencepreneurship played a central role and highlighted which diverse career opportunities open up after completing a doctorate, both within and outside the University. The event was organized by the Hamburg Research Academy together with the University of Hamburg Knowledge Exchange Agency. “With this EUGLOH program, the doctoral researchers had the opportunity to look beyond the intensive research work on their doctorates and to think about planning their own careers,” says Dr. Kerstin Lange, international affairs advisor and deputy managing director at the Hamburg Research Academy. “Many in the group were grateful for this creative freedom.”
