In the twentieth issue of QS World University Rankings 2024, Universität Hamburg ranked number 10 nationally and 205 internationally. The evaluation covered 1,500 scientific institutions around the world, including 50 in Germany.
University president Prof. Dr. Hauke Heekeren: “The QS World University Rankings count among the largest international rankings for educational institutions and provides prospective students around the world orientation. We at Universität Hamburg are delighted that nationally we are in the top 10 of the leading German universities and in the last 5 years were able internationally to move up by more than 15 places.”
Rankings are based on various indicators such as academic reputation or researcher citations. This year for the first time 3 new factors were taken into account: Sustainability, employment outcomes—meaning rate of employment of alumni—and the integration of an international research network via regular joint publications.
Universität Hamburg was especially strong in the last of these, ranking 101th internationally for its research network and 7th in Germany. Furthermore, Universität Hamburg improved significantly in the category “Employer Reputation,” from 465th to 340th. For this, the reputation of Universität Hamburg graduates in the corporate sector was evaluated.
The QS World University Rankings are published annually and, alongside the THE Ranking and the Shanghai Ranking, are one of the 3 largest international higher education ranking evaluations.
