It is now official: Universität Hamburg is one of eleven Universities of Excellence in Germany. What, however, does that mean for Universität Hamburg? What steps can or must it now take? Where will it go from here? The University’s president, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Dieter Lenzen, explains what it means to be a “University of Excellence.”

President Lenzen explained that, in the future, the University will actively pursue the measures it applied for in 5 so-called “performance areas.” These areas are research, teaching, research infrastructure, transfer, and internationalization. For students, for example, there will be more grants and scholarships for study abroad and additional courses and programs such as the Studium Generale or the liberal arts.

Thanks to additional funding from the city, buildings will continue to be renovated, refurbished, and built. See the video for more information.
