The €10,000 prizes are awarded by the education authorities for outstanding teaching and innovating teaching methods. The award is special because students nominate the candidates. Students also choose the winners together with an internal university jury. This is designed to foster open discussion between teachers and students regarding the nature of good teaching.
Prof. Dr. Susanne Rupp, vice president for studies and teaching at Universität Hamburg, on the awards ceremony: “I am delighted that this year, too, teachers from different faculties have received the Hamburg Teaching Prize, which honors and makes visible outstanding teaching at Universität Hamburg. The courses chosen reveal in particular the quality of expertise and teaching abilities, innovative teaching formats, interdisciplinarity, and practical application. I thank the teachers, who excite students’ interest in academia, competently and enthusiastically, and who, in line with our teaching mission, enable them to tackle the future of our society responsibly.”
