International Law Plus (IL+)
The newly designed program International Law Plus (IL+) seeks to bring ten German and ten Australian law students together to work on specific issues of international law. These 20 students will attend law courses together – in Sydney as well as in Hamburg – and will undertake joint research (online) supervised by academics from both law schools. During the first IL+ summer program 2018 participants will focus on international environmental law and climate change, discussing in which way environmental principles may transform and develop international (environmental) law. By applying a comparative “law in context approach” the impact of Australia and the European Union on the development of universal environmental law standards will be analyzed and participants will discuss furthermore how this impact can be secured facing future uncertainties. The aim of the IL+ summer program 2018 is not only to provide students with a deeper understanding of climate change science and environmental law but also to raise prospective academic leaders’ awareness of the impacts on the daily lives of those most threatened by climate change.

Introduction to the International Law Plus (IL+) Summer Program
Studying in Hamburg
Attending the Summer School means studying at the biggest research and education institution in Northern Germany. Universität Hamburg hosts a total of 42.000 students in eight faculties and is situated only a few hundred meters away from the city center and the beautiful lake Alster, an oasis in the middle of a big city.
The main campus is equipped with numerous libraries, three dining halls, numerous cafés and other leisure facilities inviting students to relax in between or after lectures. At the newly designed campus in Bahrenfeld, a short bus drive from the city center and your hotel, you will be able to visit some of the world's leading research institutions in physics and other fields of the natural sciences. No matter at which campus your study sessions will take place, you will get authentic insights in campus life and contact to local students.
