"Diversity Days" Workshop led by Dr. Peter Witchalls

Save the Date: From June 5 - June 9, 2023, the Stabstelle Gleichstellung (Equal Opportunity Unit) of Universität Hamburg, working together with many other departments, will offer an extensive program of workshops and events during their “Diversity Days.”

 As part of this event, the Department of Modern Languages is offering the workshop “Strategies to Communicate with People from Diverse Backgrounds” led by Dr. Peter Witchalls.

In this online seminar in English, we will first examine, from an interdisciplinary perspective, what diversity is and how this relates to cultural belonging.

With this in mind, we will discuss ideal attitudes, knowledge and behaviours when dealing with difference. Finally, we will look at promising communicative strategies when interacting with those who think and act differently to us. How can we bridge the cultural gap and give each situation the best chance of leading to fruitful collaboration?
