Spanish Language Examinations and Certifications
Language Certificate for Mobility Abroad: Erasmus & DAAD
We issue language certificates if required for: Stays abroad (e.g. ERASMUS, DAAD and other exchange programmes), Master's applications, job applications and the like, as well as for law students who wish to attend foreign language courses offered by the Faculty of Law.
You should take a written and an oral examination.
The written exams in the winter semester 2024/25 will take place on 11.10. (10:15 a.m.), 07.11. (10:00 a.m.), 11.12. (04:30 p.m.), 10.01. (11:00 a.m.) and 23.01. (09:00 a.m.) at the University of Hamburg (Von Melle Park 5).
The tests may be taken once per semester.
Please note: To take the test, you must log in to OpenOLAT with your UHH ID. If you do not yet have an ID, please contact us at testing.sz"AT"uni-hamburg.de.
After the written exam, you should contact Verónica Guijas Gento (Spanish: veronica.guijas.gento"AT"uni-hamburg.de) to make an appointment for an oral exam (Zoom or face-to-face).
However, there are alternatives to the exams if you have already attended our courses:
For Erasmus certificates:
1 completed B2 or C1 course (grade: 1.7, 1.3 or 1.0)
1 completed B2 or C1 course + written confirmation of the level from the lecturer
For DAAD certificates:
2 completed B2 or C1 courses (grade: 1.7, 1.3 or 1.0)
2 completed B2 or C1 courses + written confirmation of the level from the lecturer
Send this information (transcript with course grades or lecturer confirmation) to Verónica Guijas Gento if you wish to use the alternative.
All others should take the written and oral exam.
French/Spanish language certificate examination
- Dates in the winter semester 2024/25: 11.10., 07.11., 11.12., 10.01. and 23.01.
- Location: Von-Melle-Park 5, Room 3030 (3rd floor)
- Duration: approx. 45 min
- Registration deadline: Registration for the exam is only possible up to 24 hours before the start of the exam
- Important: The test is computer-based and will be taken online on one of the room’s computers. You will therefore need your login data for OpenOlat for the test.

DELE - Diploma de Espanol como Lengua
What is DELE?
The DELE diploma (Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera) is an internationally recognized language test to prove your knowledge of Spanish. It is awarded by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport. The test is created and evaluated by the Universidad Salamanca in Spain.
How does the test work?
The DELE tests the participants' reading and listening skills as well as written and oral communication skills.
The scope and procedure of the exam depend on the language level:
A1 - Reading comprehension (45 minutes), listening comprehension (20 minutes), written expression (25 minutes), oral expression (10 minutes + 10 minutes of preparation time)
A2 - Reading comprehension (60 minutes), listening comprehension (40 minutes), written expression (45 minutes), oral expression (12 minutes + 12 minutes of preparation time)
B1 - Reading comprehension (70 minutes), listening comprehension (40 minutes), written expression (60 minutes), oral expression (15 minutes + 15 minutes of preparation time)
B2 - Reading comprehension (70 minutes), listening comprehension (40 minutes), written expression (80 minutes), oral expression (15 minutes)
C1 - Reading comprehension and use of language (90 minutes), listening comprehension and use of language (50 minutes), integrated skills: listening comprehension, written expression and interaction (80 minutes), integrated skills: reading comprehension, oral expression and interaction (20 minutes + 20 minutes of preparation time)
C2 – Use of language, reading and listening comprehension (90 minutes), integrated skills: reading and listening comprehension, written expression and interaction (150 minutes), integrated skills: reading comprehension, oral expression and interaction (20 minutes + 30 minutes of preparation)
Why is it useful?
The DELE diploma is an official certification of your proficiency of the Spanish language. The DELE certificate is internationally recognized and can be used for university applications.
How long does the test take?
The duration varies depending on the language level. You can find the respective duration in "How does the test work?".
The exam evalution can be viewed and downloaded at the DELE certificate portal. The certificate of a passed exam will be sent from the Instituto Cervantes to the examination center.
The DELE-certificate is valid endlessly.
Costs:
The fee for the DELE-diploma depends on the language level of the exam:
A1 — 126 EUR/ 30% off for students of the University of Hamburg: 88,20 EUR
A2 — 137 EUR/ 30% off for students of the University of Hamburg 95,90 EUR
A2/B1 — 149 EUR/ 30% off for students of the University of Hamburg: 104,30 EUR
B1 — 149 EUR/ 30% off for students of the University of Hamburg: 104,30 EUR
B2 — 230 EUR/ 30% off for students of the University of Hamburg: 161,00 EUR
C1 — 244 EUR/ 30% off for students of the University of Hamburg: 172,00 EUR
C2 — 226 EUR/ 30% off for students of the University of Hamburg: 158,20 EUR
