DELF - Diplôme d’Etudes en Langue Française und DALF - Diplôme Approfondi de la Langue Française
What is DELF and DALF ?
The DELF (Diplôme d’Etudes en Langue Française) and DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de la Langue Française) diploma are internationally recognized language tests for French as a foreign language. They certify the six levels of competence of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The certificates are issued by the French Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Research.
How does the test work?
The DELF tests the participants' reading and listening skills as well as written and oral communication skills.
The scope and procedure of the exam depend on the language level:
A1 —Reading comprehension, listening comprehension, written expression (1 hour 40 minutes total) + oral expression (6-8 minutes + 10 minutes of preparation time)
A2 — Reading comprehension, listening comprehension, written expression (1 hour 40 minutes total) + oral expression (10 minutes + 10 minutes of preparation time)
B1 — Reading comprehension, listening comprehension, written expression (1 hour 55 minutes total) + oral expression (15 minutes + 10 minutes of preparation time)
B2 — Reading comprehension, listening comprehension, written expression (2 hour 30 minutes total) + oral expression (30 minutes + 20 minutes of preparation time)
C1 — Reading comprehension, listening comprehension, written expression (4 hours total) + oral expression (30 minutes + 60 minutes of preparation time)
C2 — Reading comprehension, listening comprehension, written expression (4 hours total) + oral expression (30 minutes + 90 minutes of preparation time)
Why is it useful?
The DELF diploma is an official certification of your proficiency of the French language for studying in French, both on a national level and abroad.
To study at a university in France, the level required by most universities is the DELF B2 or DALF C1.
Scope and duration:
The 6 certificate levels of the DELF DALF can be taken completely independently of each other. Depending on your language level, you are free to decide which language certificate you would like to acquire.
Once passed, the DELF DALF language certificate is valid indefinitely and certifies mastery of the four language skills of listening comprehension, reading comprehension, written and oral expression.

The fee of the DELF diploma depends on the language level of the exam:
